May is the time for flowers and the Brotherhood is out there blossoming and planning future Brotherhood programs.

But first, I want to thank the Brotherhood members who helped set up the tables and chairs for the Temple’s Second Seder: Mark Levy, Charlie Gaynor and Lou Medvene.

There are no Brotherhood events planned for May but for all Jewish Youth in the Wichita area the Brotherhood does have something for you. Elsewhere in the Ruach there is information and a scholarship application for the 2007 Our Town Youth Leadership Institute being held June 11 – 16 and the Brotherhood is awarding a scholarship for one lucky youth entering grades 10 – 12 to attend. This is a great opportunity so I urge all the eligible Wichita Jewish youth to apply for the scholarship. Former scholarship recipients have been Joseph Ross, Jason Rosenwach, Jamie Padzensky, Maeve Pickus and Aaron Moses. For more information you can contact Mark Ross at home: 263-3226 or cell: 214-1464.

In June, the Brotherhood will have their annual outing to the ballpark to see the Wichita Wranglers play. The game will be on Thursday, June 14th and will be against Springfield. More information will be forthcoming in the mail to all Brotherhood members.

In July, the Brotherhood will be quietly at work planning for their chess tournament to be held on Sunday, August 5th. We still need a name for this tournament so if anyone has an idea, let someone on the Brotherhood Board know about it. Chairman Ron Pasik thinks that it will be even better attended this year because the tournament will be rated. That means that players will be able to increase their national standings in the chess community. There will still be an area for those that want to play chess for the fun of it. More details will be forthcoming in June and July.

For those of you who have come to know and love the Brotherhood, the time is now. The Brotherhood board would love to have new board members and new ideas. You can come and join us at our next meeting. We meet on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Temple. We are planning for future events such as the outing at the ballpark, the chess tournament and going to the Prairie Rose Chuck Wagon for an evening of fun. See you next month.

Shalom – Peace be with you.

Peter Grant, Brotherhood
