It is November and the High Holy days are behind us and the weather is getting cooler. I hope that everyone is getting ready for Deli Day.

The Brotherhood Political Brunch was very well attended. About 75 people came to hear the Kansas Democratic Senate candidate, Jim Slattery, speak. The Republican incumbent, Sen. Pat Roberts, could not make it due to prior commitments. I would like to thank Mel Kahn for his help in getting Mr. Slattery to come and speak, to Tom Docking for introducing Mr. Slattery and to Sam Lentz, Lauren Lentz, Les Padzensky, Charlie Gaynor, Rebecca Gaynor, Mark Levy, Jerry Irvine, Mark Ross, Joey Ross and Carol Grant for helping in the kitchen to make this the most successful Brotherhood brunch in years. Don’t forget to vote.

The Brotherhood was also involved in setting up the Social Hall for the High Holy Days. Thank you to Ken Fruhauf, Mark Ross, Charlie Gaynor, Mark Levy, Lou Medvene, Rogier Chapon, Sam Lentz, Jerry Irvine and Scott Wagner for helping in this endeavor of setting up chairs and the makeshift bima with portable ark.

Last but not least, I would like to thank those Brotherhood members that helped set up the Sukkah. They were Don Hirschman, Lou Medvene, Nick Pekarsky, Scott Wagner, Alex Snyder, Dan Solomon, Jordan Goldschmidt, Les Padzensky, Jeff Cohen, Sam Lentz, Andy Shact, Rogier Chapon, Mark Ross, Jerry Scholl, Charlie Gaynor, Sandy Fitzig, Mark Levy, Dominique Corbeil, and future Brotherhood members, Rylon Chapon, Olivier Scholl and Zak Grant. Now we know, at least for this year, how many Brotherhood members it takes to put up a Sukkah. Way to go!

Before I forget, I want to give a big “todah rabah” to Brotherhood’s own “One Man” calling committee, Mark Levy. Without Mark and his relentless calling, we would not have the turnout that we have had in all these volunteer endeavors.

Finally, the Brotherhood is hard at work on the Roast and as announced last month, the Roastees are Lou and Mallory Medvene. I cannot think of a better couple to honor at our Roast in February.

As always, the Brotherhood Board meets on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 7:30 at the Temple and any Brotherhood member is welcome to stop by. See you next month.

Shalom - Peace be with you,
Peter Grant
